The Best Dresses For Wedding Season

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve attended several weddings. One of the weddings was here in Georgia and the other one was a destination wedding. Finding the best dresses for wedding season can sometimes be challenging. Let me tell you what I look for and what I found for these special events.

Firstly, I always lead with this question: “Do you know what dress silhouette fits best on your body type?” This isn’t a loaded question. Our bodies change with having kids, maturing, going through Menopause, being active, and being sedentary. When you know your body type and what looks best on you it will save you a lot of time and energy. Most importantly, the best dresses for wedding season are the ones that make you feel confident.

Secondly, it’s always good to know your body type when hopping for flattering dresses. I know that I am a curvy girl and regardless of what my weight is it doesn’t change my shape. If I’m heavier or weighing lighter, I am for the most part still curvy. I have fairly small shoulders, a big bust, a small waist, bigger hips, and a booty.  I disliked my shape immensely when I was younger because at that time it was the stick-thin willowy girls that were being shown in all the magazines. That was not me! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to like my shape and my curves. The best dress silhouette for me is an A-line, Empire, bodycon, wrap-dress, pouf — basically anything that comes in on the waist. Having a small waist, I like to show that feature off.

Both weddings I attended were outdoor weddings. I chose this pink faux-wrap dress for the wedding here in Georgia. I liked the sleeves because I knew if the weather was cool, I’d have something on my arms. If the weather was warmer, I could push the sleeves up and the dress would still look good.  I already had the pink sandals, and they matched the dress perfectly.

This wedding was at White Fox Cottage in Commerce, Georgia. It was a lovely venue and a perfect evening for an outdoor wedding here in Georgia.

The next wedding that we attended was in Charleston, South Carolina at the Dewberry Hotel. What a lovely city with so many things to do. I wish we had more time to stay a couple of days and do all the tourist sights and eat at some of the local restaurants.

For this wedding, I chose a long yellow silk slip dress to wear. A slip dress isn’t the best look for my curvy body, but I added a cashmere sleeveless sweater in the same shade of yellow to wear over the top of the slip dress. The bright yellow color was what I was initially drawn to for this outfit. It was an overcast evening, and I actually added a double-breasted white blazer on top of that to finish the look and to keep me warm.

I’ve gathered some other dress options for weddings whether it’s a formal wedding or casual. I hope these will be helpful for you guys in your search for the best dress for this wedding season 2022.

  1. Lisa, both dresses are fabulous! I must say the yellow slip dress really caught my eye. I’ve been wanting a slip dress for a while. Thanks so much for the tip on the yellow slip dress at Banana Republic. It’s not only yellow (my husband’s favorite color) but it is on sale for 30% off! I bought one to pick up at the store on Tuesday when I will be going on my birthday shopping spree.
I’ll be looking for a blazer to go with it to wear on a cruise in the summer and then a wedding in the fall. Any suggestions on a good complimentary color? (just not a fan of yellow and black.
    Happy Spring!

Hi Francine, I’m so glad you loved the yellow slip dress. I wore an off-white blazer with my outfit. I also think navy looks really lovely with that shade of yellow. Khaki/tan would look great too. Thank you for commenting! Happy Spring my dear. xo
