Bathing Suits for Women over 40

Are you planning a vacation this year or maybe even the summer? I know I’m looking forward to going someplace warm and hopefully, that means the beach. It’s easy to organize a trip like this but where the challenge comes in is finding a bathing suit.  The really hard work starts when looking for bathing suits for women over 40. I’m determined to wear what I want! That’s why I like to say if there’s a will there is a way. Don’t let the challenge of finding a bathing suit that fits your body type stop you from going to the beach. There are plenty of bathing suits for women over 40 to choose from!

When my children were younger, we would’ve already been to the beach by now during their spring break from school. I really looked forward to heading out with the kids to the beach. It’s one of the many things I miss most about not having the kids around and in school. The lovely memories we made spending spring breaks at the beach with family and friends are so special to me.

Last year, I was able to go to the beach with my son and daughter-in-law. We headed out to the gulf where the sand is so white, and the ocean is the most gorgeous aqua color. We had a lovely home that we stayed in within walking distance of the beach. I played in the sand with my grandkids. I got to celebrate my birthday there and my husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary there as well. We ate tons of delicious seafood. We watched the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets, relaxed, and had a wonderful time with family.

I found a bunch of suits last year that I really felt comfortable in. I shared them with you in a blog post here. This year, I’ve gathered some new swimsuit styles and put together a list of tips & tricks that’ll help you find the perfect bathing suit if you’re over 40!  I hope you find this helpful. My favorite stores to shop for bathing suits are Landsend, Kortni Jeane, and Summersalt. Here are a few things that I look for when going to try on and look for a swimsuit.

I want to see the nice lining and feel-good support when it comes to my swimsuit top. I am a small, framed person, but I have a large bust line. I want to make sure that the sisters are firmly in place. I like to run and play with the kids and don’t want to worry about having a mishap. That means making sure my bustline is secure and in place.

I want the bottoms to be lined fully as well. With that being said, I look for a strong durable elastic fabric so that I don’t have to worry about any cheeky bits showing. Nothing is worse for a woman over 40 than to have a swimsuit bottom that doesn’t give her the right coverage.

When I look for a one-piece swimsuit, I’ll look for all the same features I’ve listed above plus tummy control. There are many suit manufacturers that will add this feature to the one-piece swimsuits. This feature makes such a big difference in how your silhouette looks in a one-piece. This is helpful for those of you who have tummy issues by helping to smooth out this problem area. We all want to look good and feel good when wearing a bathing suit so finding the best fit for your body type is very important. It’s knowing your problem areas and flaws and being able to conceal them.

I enjoy a colorful print as well as bright solids that can easily be interchanged and mixed and matched. When you’re able to mix and match the different swimsuits that you have it gives you more in your arsenal to work with and wear. I also think that everyone needs a great black one-piece swimsuit as part of their collection of beachwear items.

Make sure whenever you’re out in the sun to wear your sunscreen and hat to protect your skin. I can’t emphasize this enough! Sun damage does not show up till 25 or 30 years after the damage is done. Take care of your skin.

So tell me what bathing suit styles are you looking forward to wearing this summer?
