Saturday we headed to the Georgia Dome to watch our favorite high school team play. Every year the school all 4 of my kids attended plays in the Corky Kell Classic, the official kickoff to the Georgia High School Football season. It’s great fun for the kids, from 6 year olds to seniors in high school. The younger kids get the opportunity to go out on the field as the high school team enters the field to the applause of each team’s fans, as well as their cheerleaders and marching bands. All three of my boys played football in high school and played at the Dome. When our youngest graduated 5 years ago, we thought we were done with that chapter in our lives. We had had such a wonderful time being part of the football program here and even won the state championship that year.
But here we are again. Things are a little different – I thought I was a proud momma back then watching our youngest play center. Today I’m a proud momma watching him give back to the high school he attended by investing his time into the next generation. NG3 is the group he works with – it stands “Next Generation: Character, Community and Change. “ So as he gets ready to graduate college, he gets to make an impact in these kids lives and be part of a sport he loves so much.
Fortunately our team won, and I got to see a lot of dear friends that we have grown close to through the years. It was so good to see everyone and catch up!
So here’s to the maroon and gold! GO BRONCOS!!
