Crushing on Velvet

I’ve always had a crush on velvet. It’s something I’ve gone to during the holidays to wear for years. I have several velvet jackets and pairs of pants in my closet waiting to be worn to whatever festivities that are coming up from Thanksgiving to Christmas and on to New Years.

This season I’m drawn to velvet, and I’m favoring it being worn in more casual and everyday settings. It’s also a great way to get more wear out of those quality pieces that only get  attention during special events and parties. I think you can wear velvet whenever you feel like it. In my opinion, this is one of the great things about getting older, you can do as you please. And I’m not near as worried about what others think.

I’ve paired this crushed velvet tee top with black distressed high waisted black denim. I’ve added gold accessories to contrast the velvet and black instead of silver, which is commonly used to compliment the outfit.

Another thing I love about crushed velvet is that it is so versatile. It can be something worn to the office, with a nice pair of black trousers and a blazer during the week, or with a sleek pair of black denim on a casual Friday. Velvet can also be a fun pop of texture for a great date night outfit or something to wear for a girls night out.

Tassel necklaces also seem to be making a big impact on fashion these days. This necklace I’m wearing is a classic vintage that I’ve had for years, and I’m excited to add it to this outfit.

The clutch is an old Ralph Lauren hand bag with a short strap, so I up-cycled it by detaching the strap and making it a useful, beautiful clutch. This just goes to show that everything can be repurposed.

I’m in love with these new gold heels that I bought. I used to have a pair, but I wore them so much that I wore them out. I love these with the rounded toe and the block heel, because they are versatile and fun. Metallic is such a great shoe color to have in your closet for when you can’t find a shoe that is exactly the color you need, you can throw on a metallic, any shade, and it will go great with your outfit.

I made the humid weather work in my favor with this cute top-knot updo.

Here’s what I think about velvet this season, it’s only my opinion, but I’m sure I’m not alone in having a crush on this great fabric.
