Classic and Colorful

I decided I would carry on the Valentine’s theme a little longer, because I love the color red. These high waist candy apple red cropped denim are bold and bright. This pair have been easy for me to wear, because of the fit. I like the high-waisted cut and the way they fit my curvy body. This pair of denim doesn’t have a lot of stretch either, and I’ve kind of missed that too. I’m not complaining about stretch denim in any way. I just miss that tried and true denim I wore back when I was younger.

I remember my first pair of denim that I loved and bought myself. I was working at Susie’s Casuals. This was back in 1978 (I started working when I was 15 years old. I hated asking my mother and dad for money) when I was a junior in high school. Merry-Go-Round and Foxmoor were some of the other popular places to shop along with Susie’s Casuals. My first designer denim was a pair of Jordache jeans, and boy, did they fit like a glove. I was a couple sizes smaller then I am now, but I thought I was fat. And the sizing ran very differently back then too I might add. I worked at that store through high school, and then 1 year as I was going to Cosmetology School.

That’s when my passion for styling and fashion really began.

Don’t be scared to wear vibrant colors like this. It’s exciting to be adventurous and step out of the box. An easy suggestion is to pair a really bright piece (top or bottom) with more classic pieces like I did here in this outfit.

I added a classic white poplin button-up blouse. This is a piece everyone should have in their wardrobe, because it can be worn with so many things. It can go to the office with a suit and then with sneakers and blue jeans. If you are more of that classic dresser, this white blouse looks like dynamite with a white tee layered underneath, khaki pants and driving moccasins. This one is from Ralph Lauren, and the fit is superb.

My denim jacket is another classic! I worked for Gap for 23 years, and I have several different denim jackets. It’s another staple in my closet and on the blog here, here and here.

My loafers are leopard and from Sam Edelman. I have these in metallic gold and white too. This is my version of a high end loafer. The price on these leopard shoes are even better than when I purchased them, because they are on sale now.

I added accessories with a little color, and I was off for a day in the city.
