The Beauty of Simplifying

It’s Friday! Is anyone else as excited as I am for the weekend? Did you see my first picture in this series? It looks like I’m bracing myself, and I am. Life has been like a whirlwind, and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.

It’s mostly all good things, and for starters my daughter and son-in-law are building a new house. WooHoo! I remember when we built our first house, how fun and excited we were, but a bit overwhelmed at times. There were lots of choices to be made, yet at the same time we felt exhilarated to know everything would be new, fresh and come with a warranty. I know they feel the same way too!

They put their house on the market, and it sold in 5 days! YAY! I know they were concerned with having two house payments. It really is a blessing it sold so fast.

Drum Roll Please……..they have to be out of their house the 3rd week of October. And their house won’t be ready until the end of November, so they are moving in with us!

I also had planned to do some painting since the last son moved out, and this is all now nipping at my heels to hurry and get it done before they move in.

I’m excited, but as we all know the holiday’s are fast approaching. As I walked through JC Penney’s the other day to go do a little birthday shopping. I saw to my surprise they have already started to put out Christmas items. I wanted to run and scream “NOOOO!” I don’t think that would have been too adult of me considering I had Frankie Rae with me, holding my hand as we walked through. Plus I don’t think she would have been able to keep up with me. Whether she realizes this or not, her Mimi can clip along at a pretty fast pace even at the ripe age of 57.

On top of the kids moving in, I’m planning to head with the hubs to Germany at the end of October! I’m really looking forward to this. And we are planning to also go to Amsterdam too.

I have been very fortunate to have traveled out of the country to London, Scotland and France, but I’ve never been to Germany. It will also be OctoberFest time. There will be a lot of things to see and do. If you’ve been, I’d love to know what all you did while you were there. Leave me a note below. I’m definitely wanting to make the most of my time there!

So what do you do when things start getting crazy?

I try and simplify what I can control, and that goes along with what I wear.

Todays #ootd consists of this glorified sweatshirt from Varley that I picked up during the Nordstrom sale. Varley makes some really cool athlete wear. (on a side note: I’m upping my exercise routine, because that’s a great stress reliever too.) The gold zippers down both side seams elevate this sweatshirt to the next level. As you can tell, this isn’t your average sweatshirt. I also really liked the over-sized turtleneck collar. The knit that this sweatshirt is made with has a little ribbing to it, giving it texture and making it a lot more interesting. It’s a pull-it-on and go top.

I added the leggings, again not your average legging. You can pull them on and out the door you can go. I wore another pair of leggings here by the same brand, Hue. There isn’t a zipper to fiddle with, and the frayed raw edge seam down the front was different and gives you longer looking legs. I’m all about making my legs look longer, aren’t you?

I wore a studded pair of booties from Frye Company that didn’t even need to be broken in! Yes, the leather is that soft and comfortable.

I grabbed this bucket bag I’d had for a while and tied one of my favorite silk scarves around the strap to add a small bit of color.

And to make things even easier, no contacts this day. My glasses worked just fine, and it was one less thing I had to worry about at the end of the day.

When your life get wild, what do you do to make things easier?
