All black was my uniform when I worked many years ago in the salon. Black was an easy color for a number of reasons. The biggest one being that when I colored someone’s hair, I didn’t worry about finding a smudge of hair color on my clothes. It didn’t show up. Wearing all black was easy! I did always think it was funny, because bleach wasn’t nearly as forgiving on black.
I had a couple of kids and stayed home to love and care for them. I then decided I wanted to return to the workforce, but only part-time. I started working on the weekends for Lancome as a makeup artist here in Georgia. This meant back to black as my work uniform.
I really think my love of accessories grew during this time. That was how I made my outfit unique, by mixing scarves, shoes, belts, bracelets, hats, bags, earrings and necklaces etc. It’s also when I started paying attention to textures, because wearing one color monochromatic is flattering, fun and dynamic when there are different dimensions.
Here’s my ode to my old uniform and my past jobs. The past is what turns us into the people we are today.
Life is changing as we know it due to all that is happening in the world with the Covid19 virus. The connection I have from you all through this blog and social media is what encourages me in these times of stress and uncertainty. Please stay in touch and let me know how you are doing! We need each other. My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you.
