Layers and Layers

Dressing for me these days is all about layers. We’re not at a point to where we have to pull out all our winter coats and gear, but we do need something for the mornings as they tend to be chilly. I try and keep my looks very streamline and yet still very polished. This sometimes can be a challenge.

Today’s look is all about layering for function as well as texture with this outfit. I want to still look relaxed, not sloppy. Layering for me needs be easy to remove and then put back on without looking disheveled.

I started with this soft texture tee, because as the weather gets cooler, my skin seems more sensitive to the way clothes feel. I don’t know if it’s due to the air being drier or what? Or if it’s just one of my own personal little quirky ways that I’ll unashamedly own.

I grabbed a long sleeve denim button up to wear over the tee. I have many different denim shirts, and this one was a little more of a tailored fit. I don’t want to create too much bulk on the under layers. I try to think of what an onion looks like with all the many layers, where it tends to be balanced until you get to the outer layer. The outside may be another color or looser. I still want to be able to see my shape, even though I’m wearing several pieces on top of one another. I hope that’s a good visual to remember when getting dressed!

These are Faux leather Bermuda length shorts that I’m really glad I decided to purchase back in the summer. I will wear these shorts with opaque tights or even a patterned pair and a big chunky sweater this winter. I’ll add knee high boots, so you could still see the pattern on the tights. I definitely keep the tights and boots black like the shorts.

I’m wearing these booties that are more of a western style. They were purchased at the end of season sale a couple years ago. That’s when I looked and found some of my best deals for the following year.

The long cardigan is a cabi clothing piece from a couple years ago. I’ve worn this style a bunch. If you don’t have a long cardigan, they really are what I consider a basic knit to have. I wore this one here belted it down.

What I like about layering like this is I can remove the cardigan and still feel put together. I can untuck the denim shirt and wear it out as an over shirt or tie it up in the front too. I can even wear the tee with the shorts and a pair of trainers.

This would be a great outfit to travel too, when you are unsure of the weather or travel to multiple places with different climates.

In my wardrobe layering plays a key role and will continue to be part of my own personal style.
