The Perfect Spring Outfit for Women over 40

Did you know that the Dum Dum mystery flavor isn’t any specific flavor at all? It’s actually the transition candy produced as the factory transitions from one flavor to the next! And, it just so happens that my favorite candy fun fact correlates perfectly with my favorite spring outfit to stay prepared for unpredictable spring weather!

I adore warm weather and all the fun it brings. But the path to get there is not an easy one to navigate.  I never know whether to get ready for cold morning rain, a hot humid afternoon, or evening chills. My favorite way to stay as prepared as possible is to combine an in-season color palette with fabrics fit for mid-season weather.

First, I pick a fantastic fun spring color (kind of like the colors of the lollipops themselves!)  I love pastels like robin’s egg blue, pale yellow, and baby pink right now. Then, I pick a comfy transition fabric.

Cotton is great because it’s fantastically breathable and easy to layer with. Another one of my favorites that I’m sure you’ll recognize is year-round wool. I talk about it often and it’s definitely worth the hype!

Here, I combined the two steps when I chose this lavender merino wool sweater, that’s still available at J. Crew! Its tight weave keeps me warm when the breeze gets a bit overzealous.  It’s also flexible, lightweight, breathable, and moisture-wicking; taking it a step above the cotton and making it perfect for Georgia’s miserable heat.

I paired my pullover with confetti shorts I picked up from COS. The length keeps me warm on cool mornings, the shape adds a touch of sophistication, and the feathered texture is so much fun! The feathering reminds me a bit of a baby bird, making it perfect for celebrating the first flights taken by all of this spring’s new little hatchlings.

The delicate jewelry from Stella And Dot, and the satin ribbon I tied in my hair, bring dainty femininity that balances out the sort of boxy shape of the confetti shorts. The jewelry also pairs so well with the floral pattern on my clutch. The best accessory we can carry is a smile. And, the fond memory of receiving this bag as an unexpected gift brings a smile to my face every time I pick it up.

What are some of your favorite all-weather garments for your favorite spring outfit? Tell me all about them in the comments below. I’d love to know!
