Happy Face

I’m going to try and start a monthly post on Skincare, Cosmetics, and Hair. (I guess really anything related to beauty.)

This post is sponsored.

This first series post is going to be on Neurotoxin and filler.  Before I start, I want to say that everyone I’ve talked to seems to have an opinion on this topic. And I’m respectful of you if you’re not one who wants to head down that road. I don’t, however, like the fact that if someone younger decides to get Neurotoxin or fillers, they are considered maintaining what they have. Whereas someone in midlife is looked down upon, or it’s frowned upon for wanting to do the same. I hear people say that you’re not embracing midlife when you choose products such as these, or that they’re trying to look younger. That’s not the case with me, I don’t want to look like I’m younger, I just want to look the way I feel inside, which is happy and thankful to have gotten to the age I am. It really is a gift I don’t take for granted.

And with age comes wisdom through life experience, that is invaluable. You can read lots of books that tell you how life will be, but until you have actually walked that road, you really don’t ever know. There is a peace from having lived and endured life’s trials. These are the things that are important to share with others – that you can make it. And still look good without having to go the surgery route.

In January I decided to go to Dr. Elizabeth Whitaker at Atlanta Face & Body to discuss a few things. I had heard from several people what a wonderful doctor she was, what a great job she did, and how she explained about all the injectables she uses. My reasons for going to visit Dr. Whitaker were simple. At 57 years old, I’m the happiest I’ve been in my life, but you’d never know it if I’m not smiling. There were times when I was shooting for the blog that I didn’t want to smile in every picture, but the problem was I looked sad or mad. I think part of it was I’ve had to wear glasses since I was in third grade and hated wearing them.  I went without them a lot and squinted. That squinting helped form the angry-looking lines that I had between my eyebrows.

As we age, we also get those lines around our mouth, and it naturally turns down on either side in the corners. It’s as if the lipstick kind of puddles in the corners. In fact, I have a signal with my mom that if either of us are wearing a dark or bright shade, and its landed there, we’ll point it out in a little subtle hand gesture. (Which means check the corners of your mouth.) For a woman like me who loves red lipstick, this is a bit of a problem. Yes, brands have the matte lipstick that works great. But these are hard to wear everyday, because they are so dry and can be harsh on your lips.

These were the two issues I wanted to talk to the doctor about, and they were subjects I had also mentioned to many other women.

When I went to see Dr. Whitaker, I explained the things I wanted to have her look at in order to find out what she suggested to remedy these issues. Our consultation was good! Dr. Whitaker is so sweet about explaining and putting you at ease. She explained about the Neurotoxin – where it would be used and what it would do. She also explained about the different fillers like Belotero, Voluma, Vobella and Juvederm, their differences and how each was used.  I’ve always been nervous about doing anything with my face, I guess because I’ve seen so many women that don’t look like themselves after using injectables. I wanted to look like me – the happy me who was well rested without having to smile all the time.

The plan of action was to use some Neurotoxin between my brows to relax that muscle. This would soften the lines, because I wouldn’t be furrowing my brow all the time. I was also concerned with relaxing all the muscles in my forehead. I’ve had hooded eyes my whole life and have dealt with them by contouring my eye shadow and liner.  I have a good friend who had received injections of Neurotoxin and ended up looking like she had a lazy eye for a couple months. That was something I was really worried about. Dr. Whitaker explained to me what caused this to happen and assured me it wouldn’t be an issue. She also told me she would be using Belotero around my lips for the lines and in the corners to lift them. They would use a numbing cream on the area around the mouth, because that area is very vascular. There could be some bruising and a little tenderness in that area too. Once Dr. Whitaker started, she talked to me to make sure I was comfortable and was good and numb.  I will have to admit that around my lips is a very tender area, but I think its worth it to see the results and those fine lines softened.

The staff at Atlanta Face and Body were so good about putting me at ease, and they were so attentive. I was really nervous, and they helped calm that nervousness by how asking me did I need anything and did I have any questions. They also called me a couple days later to ask how I was doing and if I had any concerns. I had a follow-up appointment for 2 weeks later, so Dr. Whitaker could see how I was doing. She wanted to make sure I was happy! And I couldn’t be more pleased.

Atlanta Face and Body also carries a wide range of Skincare Systems that are targeted for Anti-Aging. One such system is Defenage Skincare. This skincare contains a Patent-pending Age-Repair Defensins. These synthetically produced messenger peptides help the skin in the regenerating process. Defenage is the first and only 4th generation skincare featuring this stand-alone breakthrough natural mechanism of action. It helps many of the signs of aging in up to 6 weeks. Here are also some other benefits from Defenage~

*Smoothes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

*Brightens overall tone and radiance

*Promotes a more even texture

*Helps replenish moisture

*Revives Clarity

*Renews Softness

These are just a few of the changes in your skin you will notice from this product in as little as 6 weeks. There are only a few places in Atlanta that are carrying Defenage, and Atlanta Face & Body is one of them. Make sure and ask about this skincare system – it’s one of the first of its kind to do what it does.

I’d like to thank Dr. Whitaker and her staff for making me feel special! I feel like I’m part of the family at Atlanta Face & Body.

If you have any questions, please ask. I think being up front and transparent about these issues is always best. I know this is a tough topic, but it’s one I’m glad I’ve investigated.

XO
