What drives the direction that you go in when it comes to your fashion or style? What leads you to pick the things that you pick? This is how it works for me – it’s all about classic pieces, plus adding one or two items that are trending for that season. I also love color, so that has a lot to do with what I choose as well. For me, classic pieces are tailored, more on the conservative side. These can be part of “the oldie but goodie” that I refer to a lot as “vintage.”
I’ve had these pieces for quite awhile. They’re not exactly what is shown in the marketplace at the moment, but they’re close enough. And like any good piece of clothing, these were not inexpensive, and they were altered to fit me perfectly! So they are part of the family!
When it comes to color, that’s where your personality can shine. I wear a lot of color because I feel good being bright. If you tend to lean more toward the neutral, bags, shoes and accessories can bring a pop of color that is not overbearing. That will give your outfit that bit of ZING! It’s always exciting to see what the Pantone colors are for each season. These are the colors chosen by the Designer and Fashion Houses and are featured during fashion week in New York and Europe.
I also like styles that I’ve already worn (when I was younger), making them my own now at an older age.
And that’s what I’ve done with these high-waisted bell bottoms from Levis and gauze flutter top from Free People. I wore a very similar look in the 70’s. Back then I was a curvy girl like I am now, and this style was more for someone with less hip and bust line. Now it’s more about embracing the curves. And that’s exactly what I’m doing! I’m no longer bound by my shape, weight and size. That’s one of the lovely things about getting older! I know who I am, and I like me!
So here’s what I want to know: Where’s your fashion compass leading you? And are you happy in the direction you’re going, or do you need to turn around and head another direction – out to new and unchartered territory as far as your fashion and style is concerned?
