Falling for Weddings

Wedding season is still hot and heavy right now. Ask me how I know – well, for starters, as a makeup artist and stylist you can do a good bit of your business during wedding season. I also got married 38 years ago in the month of August, the 2nd to be exact. I also had my oldest son get married in September. They will celebrate their fourth wedding Anniversary next month. My daughter got married in October, and they will be celebrating 6 years of marriage this year.

Fall is a wonderful time to get married because of the cooler temperatures and the beautiful foliage outside. Here in the South it can be a bit stressful trying to figure out what date in the fall works best, because we live for our football seasons here. College football rules in the South, and finding a weekend that doesn’t interfere with someone’s team is almost impossible.  Atlanta is close to all the big football schools, and weddings can really mess with someone’s plans to follow their team.

For all that has to be done in this planning, I try to emphasize living in the moment. Enjoy the process and breathe.

One of the big things about prepping for a wedding for the bride is finding THAT dress. We know how crazy, stressful and maddening it can be because of the shows that are on TV like “Say Yes to the Dress” that shows brides going to pick their dresses. It’s their day, and they want to look their very best. I’ve worked weddings for a long time and feel honored to be part of the BIG day. I also know if things are going to go sideways it won’t be on my watch. I’m thankful to say in all the years I’ve worked in the industry I’ve never had one wedding disaster on me!  Knock on wood.

I’ve been a MOB and MOG and even though it wasn’t my day per se, I wanted to feel and look my best, represent my family well and not stress over it all in the process. I really just wanted to help everyone hold it together and enjoy the day.  So when BHLDN reached out to me to partner with them to show you this beautiful dress I was thrilled. This Gerda dress is so flattering on and would work great for all body types. This shirt dress made of black organza with stunning antique-gold flowers is gorgeous. It’s easy to wear as it simply buttons up the front and has an adjustable tie belt. The 3/4 sleeves were especially nice for those of you who are concerned with showing your arms. I liked the cuff and the rhinestone button details. The fabric is so lightweight and has a built-in slip that is actually sewn into the dress. I think this is so very nice no – worries about the slip shifting and showing while you’re wearing it. It would be an easy dress to dance the night away in this full skirt. I mean that’s what you do when you go to most weddings – eat, dance and celebrate the nuptials.

I paired the dress with these Neala Earrings also from BHLDN. I prefer larger earrings, because they can be seen when my hair is down. These large flower earrings follow suit with the metallic flower detail of the dress. I liked that it also is a mix of Pearls and rhinestones. I’ll wear these earrings with other outfits in my closet too.

I picked shoes with a simple suede pointy-toed heel with an ankle strap. These shoes have a medium heel, and I liked the texture the suede brought to the dress.

I went with a black patent leather clutch bag to finish this look. I like that it was a bit shiny up against the dress and didn’t get lost when it was photographed.

If you are planning a wedding and/or have a daughter or son that is, this is an exciting time for you! I’ll give you a few more options below in dresses that I’m loving with BHLDN. I would also love to know what you are planning with your wedding and when that special day is?

I just love weddings, don’t you?

XO
