Face Talk

As a woman who will be 56 years old this year, I’m at an age where I have realized quite a lot of things about life. A lot of what I deemed important when I was younger really didn’t matter i.e. what my family had, who my parents were, where we lived, what I wore, how I dressed and how I looked.  Do you understand where I’m going with this? There was a lot of self-loathing and a good amount of time that was wasted, but there were several things that were true. One was taking care of my body….exercising and eating right, because we only have one body. It wasn’t about how thin I was but about being healthy and the best me I could be. The second was taking care of my skin, especially my face. My mother taught me at a young age, (before I wore makeup) to make sure to cleanse my face morning and night and use a moisturizer. I’m not saying I got it right all the time, but I think I did most of the time. She also told me to stay out of the sun, and when I did get in it, to use a sunscreen – lots of it. I didn’t adhere to this as much as I should have, and I’m seeing the effects. You see, sun damage doesn’t show up until 30 years after the damage, so at 55 years old, I’m seeing what I did at 25. So what am I doing to help minimize these issues? I’m still doing everything my mother told me, cleansing and moisturizing. I have also added more to my regimen morning and night.  In the morning I’m using a gentle cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum and moisturizer. Then, in the evening, I’m using the same gentle cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum and night cream. The common factor in morning and night has been the serum. I’ve been using Super Line Preventor Xtreme from Prescriptives both AM and PM. What’s great about this product is it holds 100 times its weight in water, and it binds moisture to your skin which will help keep your skin hydrated. When your skin is hydrated, your makeup goes on easier and smoother.  I’ve also noticed that it’s helped in the redness I have on my nose and cheeks. Along with the serum, I’m also using Prescriptives Super Line Preventor Overnight Radiance Cream. I’ve used both of these products for over 2 weeks, and the biggest difference I’ve seen is with my fine lines (smile lines).  This cream has helped plump up my skin, because it’s also aiding in hydrating my skin and doing all this while I sleep. As a makeup artist, I can’t stress strongly enough that how you treat your skin is more important long term than what makeup you wear.

I’m also using this new Silverati Shampoo and Conditioner by Oribe for silver and gray hair. Oribe has a wonderful line of hair care products that I have used for years. I’ll be writing more about this product in the next couple weeks. Stay tune!
